Minutes of the Booster Club Meeting for March 2012

Meeting Date: March 1, 2012

Meeting Time: 7:30 p.m.

Presiding: Joseph Malagrino, President of the Booster Club

The meeting was opened with the Pledge of Allegiance.

The minutes of the February meeting were reviewed. A motion to accept the minutes of the February meeting was put on the floor by Mike Harchik and seconded by Don Deptula.

Treasurer Report

The current balance in the club’s treasury is $27,984.00. However monies will be coming in from revenues of the tricky tray held on 3/23/2012, as well as the lift-a-thon money.

A special budget meeting will be held on Monday March 5, 2012 by members of the executive board of the club and Coach Caruso. The budget will be reviewed and voted on by the entire membership in April’s meeting.

Clothing

All items have been received and counted by Mr. Mathers. The possibility of a logo change has been discussed with details to follow. It was also discussed for a possible half price sale on all remaining merchandise to clean up inventory.

Website

Don Deptula is in charge of our website and anyone may e-mail him with any questions or issues regarding the website at donalddeptula@vmail.com Don also stated that if we wanted to update and color up our website it would probably cost us at a minimum of $250.00 to bring someone in and do this for us. Essentially the site is free and possibly to get more people to look at our site, coloring up our site might be a worthwhile

Fundraising

The tricky tray fundraiser will be held on March 23,2012. At this time we are still in need of baskets. Extra tricky tray sheets will be available for purchase at $10.00 a sheet. A 50/50 raffle will be held with a maximum of 1,000 tickets sold. Details will follow regarding the outcome of the event hi the April minutes.

The Applebee’s breakfast fundraiser has been set for September 15, 2012 from 8:00 to 10:00a.m.

A $500.00 deposit was put down on the end of the year breakfast which will be held on Sunday December 9, 2012.

Coach’s Report

9 Steinert High School senior football players were selected to participate in the state all-star games played in late June. Selected to represent Steinert High School in The Sunshine Classic which will be held on June 28,2012 at The College of New Jersey football field are as follows:

Selected to play and represent Steinert High School in the New Jersey State North vs. South All-Star Game is Adam Riese. This game is scheduled for June 25, 2012 at Kean University Football Field.

Commemorative Mini – Helmets have been ordered for the 2011 Steinert Football team as a keepsake for a fantastic and memorable season. The mini-helmet will be a replica of the Steinert Football helmet with each player’s number on the back, S on the right side and Group 3 State Finals on the left. These helmets should be in by the end of March.

On May 6th, West – Windsor North High School will host a Special Olympics. Volunteers are needed. More information is forthcoming.

Minutes of Booster Club Meeting for February 2012 

Meeting Date:     February 2, 2012

The meeting opened at 7:35 p.m. with the Pledge of Alliance. 

The minutes for the January meeting were reviewed by all present and approved by the membership.

Treasurer Report

The booster club as of February of 2012 has a balance of $30,075.00.  Next year’s budget will be discussed in either the March/April meeting.

Special Meeting

A meeting for all booster club presidents will be held on February 3, 2012 at 6:00 p.m. to introduce the new athletic director for Steinert High School, Mr. Constantino.  Rules and procedures for all booster clubs will be discussed at this meeting.  Joe Malagrino invited any member to attend the meeting with him. 

Website

To this date, not many people have registered and subscribed on the website.  The membership discussed ways on how to color-up the website to make it more attractive and what forms need to be deleted or updated such as the banquet forms and media release forms.  The membership also discussed what if any information needs to be restricted.  Don Deptula is running the website and offered his help to anyone who needs assistance subscribing to the website.  Also, suggestions were heard when to collect dues for yearly membership.  As of right now, the meeting held in late August which introduces the football team known as the “All Hands on Deck Meeting” was a suggestion of choice at this point.

A $1,000.00 deposit was put down and the membership approved a $2,750.00 to assist with the expenses.  A motion was put on the floor for approval by Don Deptula and seconded by John Scordo.  The membership approved.  Deb Amodie put a motion on the floor that the booster club donate $250.00 to match a donation by Karen Blackmon’s family to purchase prizes.  This motion was seconded by John Scordo and approved by the membership. 

Donations are needed for anyone who can make up a themed basket and donate it to the cause.   

Applebee’s Breakfast Fundraiser.  We are hoping to book this fundraiser on Sunday 9/16/2012 from 8 – 10 a.m.

2012 Football Banquet Breakfast

The date has been set for the upcoming end of the season football banquet to be held on December 9, 2010 from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Freshmen Welcome

Terry Wagner is preparing a letter to go out to all incoming freshmen to introduce them to the Steinert Football Program.  This letter should be finalized in May of 2012.

Coach’s Report

Coach Caruso talked about the Lift-a-thon to be held on Monday February 27, 2012 and Tuesday February 28, 2012.

A possible new ad book program will be looked at and introduced at next month’s meeting.

The Scholar Athlete dinner honoring Tyler Zandomenego and the Twelfth Man Touchdown Club will hold its annual dinner some time in March.  There is a possibility for the Steinert football team to participate in the Hamilton St. Patrick’s Day Parade held on March ,10 2012.

The TASK committee has been renamed to the Charitable Activities committee in order to encourage volunteering for other worthy organizations. Updates to follow.

Beginning January 2008, SHS Football players have provided community service on a monthly basis at the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen. This worthy cause has enlightened our youth on one of the many needs for those less fortunate. SHS Football players that would like to participate on the first Tuesday for any upcoming month may contact Ms. Maureen Gallagher at PMGall5@optonline.net or you may see Coach Caruso.

Minutes of Booster Club Meeting for January 2012

Introduction:     President Joseph Malagrino introduced himself and the new booster club

members including:

Joe Malagrino gave an overview of the functions of the booster club.  The booster club will meet on the first Thursday of every month except for July.  He stated that he is reviewing the By-Laws and will try to make a copy available for the members.  He also stated that Don Deptula has updated our website and is now fully operational.  The website is to be used as our main communicator with photos, news clippings, news alerts, registration and treasury reports for all to view.  At this point Joe Malagrino called the meeting to order and the Pledge of Alliance was recited.

The minutes for the December meeting were read by John Scordo and seconded by Don Deptula and approved by the membership.

Treasurer Report       

The booster club has a current balance of 30,371.12.  A detailed treasury report will be read in February.

Championship Memorabilia 

Several suggestions were brought up on some sort of championship memorabilia for the team having had a successful year and reaching the state finals.  Hoodies were voted down as the thought that they would not be worn by the players as most of the team are seniors and would be leaving the school for college.

Coach Caruso introduced the suggestion of a memorable mini helmet with the player’s number on the helmet as this would be a keepsake and a more memorable piece of football history for the player’s to remember in their futures.  Coach Caruso will check what the cost of these helmets will be as the anticipated cost would be $25.00 per mini helmet.

Old Business  

It has been brought to the clubs attention that a $30,000+ balance in our bank account is too much money.  It was agreed that the money needs to be earmarked and used for a certain project.  Suggestions were as follows:

Possible new uniforms

Expanding the locker room

Updating the trailer

A building near the football field to be used as a

bathroom/locker room

This will be discussed at up and coming meetings.

The signature on checks was also discussed.  It was voted on and approved that two signatures would be required on all checks as a system of checks and balances.  The three members who are authorized to sign checks are Joe Malagrino, Mike Harchik and Robyn Zandomenego.  Two out of the three need to sign each and every check.  Don Deptula put the motion on the floor and seconded by John Scordo.  Approved by the membership.

Committee Membership Changes

Clothing will be chaired by Ferdinand Mather.  Assistance will be given by Tamie Marshall.

Charitable contributions will be chaired by Steve Charnowski

Membership will be chaired by Deb Amodie

Scholarship Committee 

Suggestions were introduced to run an after prom raffle to fund the annual scholarship.  Further details to follow.

Coach’s Report

Coach Caruso made several positive comments and compliments of a very successful football year, but he also stated that now it is the beginning of a new season.  Individual player/position meetings will begin some time in February.  Agility practices will be scheduled on Saturday mornings throughout the winter.  Possible purchases are to include the purchase of prowler sleds and new football goal posts.  The approximate cost of the football goal posts is $7,000, but a more exact price will be looked into.  Coach Caruso also entertained the idea of possibly renting lights on Friday nights for big games.

Coach Caruso also introduced the 2012 football schedule as there have been some changes.   Please note that we will not be playing Lawrence and Notre Dame High Schools this season, instead we will be playing Hopewell Valley and Allentown High Schools.  The schedule is as follows:
